usually contains a secluded location e.g. the woods, a ghost town, haunted house ectthe main characters forget about the immediate threat
the power is cut at the scariest part of the movie
the phone lines are cut by the killers
someone (usually alone) investigates a strange noise
someone runs upstairs instead of outside if chased by a killer
victims cower in front of a window or door when the killer appears
victim always falls over
vehicles wont start
a fake scare usually occurs
warning goes unheeded
someone is killed within the first 5 minutes
usually a prologue or epilogue is present
